Description
Organic/Bio Green Lentils (Lens culinaris). Available in 500g and 1kg packs. These small, lens-shaped legumes have a robust, nutty flavor with a slightly peppery note and an earthy finish. Their firm texture holds up well during cooking, and they readily absorb the flavors of the ingredients they are cooked with. Naturally vegan and gluten-free, they are a good source of plant protein, fiber, iron, folate and magnesium. Uses: soups, stews, salads, casseroles, side dishes and veggie burgers. They can also be roasted and seasoned as a snack. Rinse before cooking; simmer for approximately 20 to 25 minutes until tender. Store in a cool, dry place in a sealed container. Cooked lentils keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three days. Simple recipe, lentil soup: saute 1 chopped onion, 2 diced carrots and 2 chopped celery stalks until tender. Add 2 minced garlic cloves and 1 tsp cumin, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Add 1 cup green lentils and 4 cups vegetable broth, bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
